How to understand what it means to be and become human in relation to God - and from there to everything else: to people, animals, plants, landscape and culture, to the various forms of social and political life? These questions are addressed in the collective monograph Who is Man? In an interdisciplinary perspective, the authors develop a discussion about the Bible and its interpretation in different Christian traditions, showing in what sense the presupposition of human freedom is irrevocable and constructive, what it means to be human in relationships, in speech, in stories, in landscapes, in symbols and rituals, and how these contribute to who one is and who one becomes. The first part of the book, entitled "We are born into a life that existed before us", focuses from different angles on the basic coordinates in which human existence unfolds. The chapters of the second part, under the title "We are who we become," focus on key issues in theological anthropology, viewing human beings in terms of the biblical accounts and the Christian context. The book offers not only a layered analysis of the sources of human self-understanding, but also an invitation to reflect on the essential questions of our existence: who are we? Where did we come from? Where are we going?
